Addie Mariah Parks

May 26, 1948 — January 29, 2021

Addie Mariah Parks was born in Los Angeles, California on May 26, 1948 to the parents of Nicholas and Addie Dillard. She was one of ten children. The Dillard family moved from Los Angeles to Compton, CA in 1955. She attended Long Fellow Elementary School, Walton Jr. High School and graduated from Compton High School. After that she met Lawrence Parks and married him in 1967. Of this union they had two children La Shelle and Lawrence Parks Jr. After they divorced Addie met Larry Gardner in 1980, the two were married later and of this union a beautiful daughter Anita Gardner was born. Life on the 63rd, were some of Addie greatest memories in fact these times were her treasured memories of parties and cook-outs with family and friends. Life on the "63rd" was a defining moment in her life, she loved her longtime friends that became like family. This time in her life allowed her to pave the way for what her own family unit would look like. Addie never let life's challenges take over her she would always find a way to come-out on top. Being from a large family Addie was always prepared for whatever life through her way. Riah was one of the toughest. She was the one trying to fight everyone's battles, especially her brothers. Standing at a whopping 4'11 with the heart of a giant Addie was always ready for war especially when it came to her family and friends. Over the years her relationships with her remaining siblings were extremely important to her. Even at the age of seventy-two Addie did not and would not back down. With a sharp mouth and quick hands, she still had that fiery personality living inside of her. Every role she played in someone's life she took to heart and gave 110%. Family: Daily Phone calls to almost everyone in her immediate family were a given. Gram was the boss and loved her title. Addie better known as "Grammie" to her beloved grandchildren, and Riah to many family and friends. Addie was hardworking, and extremely loving making sure her grandchildren never wanted for a thing. Addie loved her family, especially her children. Addie adored her grandchildren from the oldest to the youngest. She loved spending time with each one of them. Addie loved to cook, clean, and give those famous Grammie back scratches, not to mention she always had the best advice. When she gave advice it often started with "You know what you need to do just do it". Often you found her grandchildren not wanting to go home, but instead spending the night with Grammie. She was a wonderful person inside and out and the best grandmother a child could ask for. She loved hard and was truly one of a kind. She left a lasting impression on everyone that knew her. On January 29, 2021 Addie was called home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents Nicolas and Addie Dillard. Her sister Beverly Blalark (Bay) and brothers Jerry, Clint Artis (Neb), and Royal Dillard (Butch). She leaves a lifetime of memories, to her remaining siblings.
