Alice LaVonne Luther was born July 12, 1919 in Nevada, Iowa, to Ralph and Margaret Webb. She had a sister 2 years older, Arlene, and a sister 2 years younger, Margaret. She also had a brother who passed away at age 4 from influenza. She married preceded her high school sweetheart, George Lester Luther, who preceded her in death in 1979. Alice graduated from Oelwein High School in 1936, followed by graduation from the American Institute of Business. She worked as a stenographer for the State of California, as well as the California Department of Auditing. She was also an entrepreneur who owned 3 separate businesses in both Iowa and California. During the course of her personal ministry, Alice served as Womens Ministries Director in 5 separate Assembly of God churches, as well as launching her own Joy Fellowship monthly meetings held in Cliftons Cafeteria. She conducted convalescent home ministry for over a decade in two senior care facilities at their request. Alice also volunteered as a Prayer Counselor for 14 years at the Trinity Broadcast Network. She once personally collected and delivered over 100 pair of Buster Brown shoes to an orphanage in Mexico. Because prayer was her passion, she served for 7 years in the local prayer group of her church. Alice is survived by her son Larry Luther, her two daughters, Judy Mercer and Charlene Garcia; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
