Anna L. Chavez, 12.15.35 – 08.13.25

Corona, CA – It is with a heavy heart that the family shares the news that Anna “Annie” L. (Lawrence) Chavez died on the morning of August 13th, 2025, due to complications from congestive heart failure. She was 89.

Anna is survived by her three children, daughter Andrea (Christensen) and son-in-law Ken of Rogers, Minnesota; son Stephen and daughter-in-law Nancy of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter Laura (Coovert) and son-in-law David of Corona, California; brother Anthony (Debbie) Lawrence of Vandalia, Ohio; grandchildren Aimee Clark of Corona, California; Kyle (Robyn) DeLoss Henkler of Forest Lake, Minnesota; Bobby (Teagan) Coovert of Lake Elsinore, California; and Lisa (Connor) Coovert Olson of Corona, California; and great-grandchildren Andre, Audreena, and Andru (with another on the way) along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tony (2019), her brothers Elmer Jr., Eugene, and Robert, along with her parents.

Anna was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 15th, 1935, to parents Elmer and Vonna (Cannon) Lawrence. The family settled in Dayton, Ohio, where Anna graduated from St. Joseph Commercial High School in 1954. She went on to University of Dayton, obtaining her teaching credential. Anna then taught first grade at St. Albert the Great Catholic School in Kettering, Ohio.

Anna loved to bowl and enjoyed getting on the field for a game of softball. She also made a trip or two to Florida with her close girlfriends from college.

It was around this time she met the love of her life, Tony Chavez, a California transplant working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Mom’s description, “he was the tannest man I’d ever seen”.

Once married, they quickly started a family. As opportunities came her husband’s way, they moved to Southern Michigan, then Indianapolis, Indiana, and eventually Huntington Beach, California.

Anna’s wit and humor were always at the ready, and she enjoyed the give and take of a good story, the subject matter often rooted in her family’s rich history.

She also showed extraordinary strength as she battled both arthritis and anxiety, never backing down from either.

Anna, along with her husband Tony, were frequent hosts of their growing family, and their Christmas Eve get togethers were occasions that were not to be missed.

Her later years brought additional health issues and challenges, often faced with daughter Laura at her side. Even in the toughest moments, her wit would remain intact.

Anyone who knew “Annie” was better from knowing her, and she will be missed.

Services will be held on September 18th at 10am at The Thomas Miller Mortuary, 1118 E. Sixth Street, Corona, California, 92879.
