Barbara Karen Hammar Holohan

August 24, 1937 — April 9, 2023

Barbara Karen Hammar Holohan, a devoted Christian, and loving mother, passed away on April 9, 2023, at the age of 85 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 24, 1937, in Spokane, Washington to William Francis Green and Margaret Roberta Ellingson. Barbara received her Bachelors degree in Recreational Administration from San Francisco State University. She soon met Duane Hammar whom she married in 1958. After relocating to Riverside in 1960, Barbara and Duane began their family. Her sons are Mark Karl, Matthew William, Michael Alan, and Morgan Christopher, all of Riverside CA. She was quite proud of her sons and all their successes. During this time, she discovered an interest in the library sciences. That love flourished and led her to earn a master's degree at the University of Southern California. In the early 1980s, Barbara became the Periodicals librarian at California Baptist College. After a successful career, she retired from California Baptist University in 2002 as the Director of the Annie Gabriel Library. Throughout her life, Barbara remained passionate about growing and sharing her Christian faith. She was a praise leader at a variety of churches. Her family has many fond memories of her serenading them with songs about Jesus and His love for them. Barbara was a prayer warrior and found comfort in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of The Grove Community Church in Riverside, where she attended their Joyful Hearts Bible Study and made many close friends. She was preceded in death by Duane, her husband of 23 years, and her second husband Ray Holohan, whom she was married to from 1982 until his death in 2006. Barbara is survived by her four sons: Mark, Matthew, Michael (Karissa), Morgan (Vera), and Kay Hammar; her grandchildren: Kyle, Haley, Paige, Mackenzie, Christian, Kathryn, and Ethan, who all brought her tremendous joy and pride throughout her life, her brother William Green of Marietta, GA, her niece Lucia Von Clemm, and her nephews William Green and Richard Green. Her legacy continues with the recent addition of a great-granddaughter, Amelia. Barbara was known for her kind heart, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to her family. She led a full life and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We find comfort in knowing that she is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
