Bernard Pegg

May 18, 1953 — February 4, 2021

Bernard “Butch” Pegg passed away in February of 2021, after a long hard fight with pneumonia and complications from his condition. Butch was born in Indiana, to parents Bernard and Mary Pegg, he was the second of their four children, and was 67 years old at the time of his passing. He was a loving and supportive Son, Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather (Pop Pop / PaPa), and Friend. He was a hardworking man who put his family first in all things and spent his life serving and helping others. He was an amazing man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Butch grew up in Orange County and enjoyed skateboarding, body surfing, was a boy scout, sang in the high school choir, and was a percussionist in the high school band. Butch spent 4 years in the Navy proudly serving his country, working as an Aircraft Mechanic on the flight deck of the USS Hancock and the USS Enterprise, he also performed with the Navy Choir. He worked for more than 30 years as an aerospace engineer. He met his wife Sherry in 1978, they married in 1979, and he loved traveling the world and sharing adventures with her. They were blessed with three children; Brandon, Jessica, and Heather. He had a deep and abiding love for his family, which he showed on a daily basis. He loved camping in the great outdoors, fishing, hiking, backpacking, archery, golf, and all kinds of planes, trains, and cars. He volunteered as a scoutmaster and leader in the Boy Scouts of America and helped many young scouts develop a love for the outdoors. He was always willing to help a friend or members of his family, they could always count on him for help with any kind of problem, whether it was car trouble, an electrical problem, laying tile, or woodworking. He developed a love for cooking at a young age and was a master at the grill. While his children were young he could be seen at almost every baseball, soccer game, dance recitals, water polo game, and swim meet cheering from the crowd or the coach's bench. His greatest pride will always be his children and grandchildren. He was the greatest Pop Pop / Papa ever and he took great pride in his job as a grandpa. He was always rolling on the ground playing and teaching the grands everything he could. He would spend hours building elaborate train tracks before the grandkids came over to play. Butch had a wonderful singing voice and would sing the grandbabies to sleep at naptime. He loved classical and all kinds of music from the Beach Boys and the Beatles, to Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Paul & Mary, Abba, John Denver (and so many other varied artists). He loved the 1812 Overture and would blast the speakers when the Canons were fired, a personal favorite of his was also Toccata in Fugue (in D minor, as he would remind us), by J.S. Bach. Road trips, when the kids were growing up, almost always started with Convoy, and followed with rousing songs by the Irish Rovers. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sherry; his three children Brandon Pegg and Shannon Dixon, Jessica and Mario Esparza, and Heather and Dwayne Parten; and his five grandchildren; Mario, Winston, Lucianna, John, and Mateo. Also by his three Siblings; Terri and John Lee, Susan and Ken Johnson, and Dan and Denise Pegg. His parents were there to welcome him into Heaven.
