Bogdan "Mike" Czaplinski was born in Poznan Poland on September 28, 1952, to Jan and Jadwiga Czaplinski. He spent most of his life in a little town in Western Poland called Dębienko. Mike served his country honorably as a tank commander in the Polish army. He learned his trade of being an electrician at a young age. He met Krystyna Lewandowski when he was a teenager at a party, and they eventually married and had one son named Luke. Christina and Mike eventually moved to Katowice Poland where they worked at one of the largest steel mills in that country. There they both got involved in the solidarity Union in Poland. Because of their anti-communist beliefs and their work with the solidarity Union Mike was imprisoned for protesting against the Polish government. In November of 1983 Mike his wife and son left Poland for the United States for a new life. He ended up in Southern California where he worked as a Teamster electrician for most of his life.
