MY DAD MY HERO It seems like my Dad is drifting away, There are so many things left to say, Someone elses hand holds the phone to his good ear, Not really knowing what he can hear, So Ill write him a poem straight from my heart, It may give my grieving a jump start, Dear Daddy, Im glad for all the good times we had, I bounced on your knee and it made you glad, You watched me receive an artist award, And raised your daughters to know of the LORD, You served our country for twenty-five years, And chased away our childhood fears, You fixed our car, After traveling real far, You were always polite and wise, And made your bed before sunrise, Your unique sense of humor brought tears to my eyes, You made me laugh until I cried, You would admit when you were wrong, And called to sing me a happy birthday song, You sent us a fruit cake every year, Even when you didnt live near, You said I was the ornery one, And were always proud that I had six sons, I loved it when you called me Janey, Our years of laughter have been many, As you are bedridden and can only mumble, I pray for a miracle and it makes me humble, You said you have lived a good long life, And are ready to see Heaven when you die.
