Cheryl Alling Ramsey was born October 8, 1948 and passed away on July 5, 2024 after battling cancer. She was a fighter until the end.
Cheryl was born & grew up in Riverside, California with loving parents and an older brother and sister, Frank & Carolyn. After graduating with the first class from the new campus of Poly High School, she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Cheryl met her husband, Steve Ramsey, at Meneely Memorial Presbyterian Church. They were married for 13 years and had two daughters, Rebecca (Becky) and Kimberly.
Cheryl found her dream job working for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), where she excelled in hazard mitigation and worked all over the US. During that time, she gathered life-long friends until she retired at age 70 and lived out her days in the beautiful area of La Quinta, CA. Cheryl was passionate about her faith and attended St. Andrews Community Presbyterian Church in Indio where she volunteered her time and loved her church. Her La Quinta neighbors were special to her and were also her “family” when we couldn’t be there. They took amazing care of her when she fell ill.
She cherished her grandchildren and also enjoyed taking walks, reading, watching tennis and playing many other games such as Wheel of Fortune, Kings on the Corner, and Sorry! She loved traveling and recently took all 9 of us on a cruise where we have many happy memories. Her generous, big heart kept her connected to many friends over the years and all our family in California, Texas & beyond.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother & father, Frank & Georgia Alling. She is survived by her daughters Becky (Gary) Schlatholt & Kimberly (Jack) Kavanagh; Four grandchildren – Cayden & Mason Schlatholt and John Stephen & Madeline Kavanagh; her brother Frank (Holly) Alling, her sister Carolyn (Wayne) Larson & many nieces, nephews and cousins.
