Clayton Smith

November 5, 1960 — July 16, 2015

Our beloved son, husband, and father Clayton Smith fell asleep in death on July 16, 2015 at home in Eastvale CA with his family at his bedside. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Harlem, NY on November 5, 1960 to Ernest Clayton Smith and Doris McKoy Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, and sister Jennie Smith of New York. He graduated from Boys and Girls High School and attended Long Island University and Old Westbury College. In 1981 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. His tours of duty eventually lead him to central California where in 1985 he met his love, Andrea (Angie) Williams. They married on August 16, 1986, and from this union came two wonderful children. After 10 years of service in the USMC, his desire was to become a police officer. He was hired by the San Bernardino Police Department in November 1991 where he proudly served for 23 years. Here he developed close friendships that meant a great deal to him. He loved lifting weights and playing basketball, and in recent years became an avid fan and lover of golf. He always joked that during his retirement hed become a professional golfer and follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods; however hed be known as Cheetah. But Claytons most treasured moments were those spent with close friends and family. He had a special bond with his buddies he grew up with in New York and kept close ties with them throughout the years. He loved and cherished his children more than anything else and would stop at nothing to make sure that there needs were always taken care of. A definite Hero in our eyes. He leaves behind, his loving wife of 29 years Angie, daughter Mayah Nikia Smith, son Alexander Clayton Smith, mother Doris, and brother Benjamin Hernandez of New York, nephew Zion Jolly, nieces Dierdre Smith Broderick, Saraye Nikkia Alexandra Hernandez, Laniya Hernandez, and Asyrah Jenna Hernandez, great-nephew Keanu Chapple, and great-niece Zelda Broderick Smith, all of New York. We will love him and will miss him dearly.
