Cynthia Josephine Dee
June 3, 1941 – March 16, 2025
Cynthia Ciechon Dee was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, but lived most of her life in Manchester, New Hampshire. She received a bachelor’s degree at Notre Dame in Manchester and her Master’s degree from The Catholic University of American Masters in Washington D.C. She married her husband Jeramiah Dee in 1970 and spent 21 wonderful years with him prior to his death in 1991.
Cynthia applied and accepted the position of Library Director for the City of Corona and moved with her husband from New Jersey to the City of Corona in 1978, later she commented “I never expected to get it!” She made a difference in the Libraries growth and met many friends along the way through her involvement in civic organizations such as Soroptimist, Women’s Club and Heritage Park’s Garden and Friendship Clubs. Cynthia would say one of her goals in life was the “3 M’s, my Man, my Master’s and my Mercedes”, she was successful in her pursuits!
Cynthia was a dog lover; they were her “fur babies”. Through the course of her years she had over 9 little dogs. Upon her retirement she additionally dog sat for many friends and neighbors. Cynthia loved to entertain, she’d spend the day preparing the meal and then take stock and watch all her guests enjoy the fruits of her labor. Her neighbors can attest to one particular New Year’s Day celebration where she had 12 guests and 12 dogs, she opened the dog gate once the meal concluded and chaos ensued. Needless to say the party was over for those “humans” in attendance.
When being introduced as the incoming president for Soroptimist many years ago, someone once wrote “If humor is a recipe for life, we should expect Cynthia Dee to have a library full of ‘Lifebooks’. ‘Never a dull moment is our complement to our incoming president who believes that life is too short to waste a moment on unhappiness”.
She will be forever loved and greatly missed by many.
