On October 30, 2023, Darrel Lee Lohman woke up to Jesus after unexpected complications
from a recent heart attack.
Darrel was born to Bert and Jean Lohman on March 23, 1951 in tiny Douglass, Arizona, joining
older brother David. The family moved not long after to Barstow, California in 1953, and in 1963,
adopted David and Darrel’s younger sister, Lisa. Eventually Bert settled his family in the La
Puente/Hacienda Heights area, and Darrel graduated from Workman High School in 1969
where he played tennis and was a member of the school marching band.
At a car rally at Granada Heights Friends Church, Darrel found himself in the same car with a
young redhead, Peggy Mole, in May of 1977. They began dating shortly after and got married
June 17th, 1978. Darrel continued working his way through his undergraduate degree in
Business and celebrated his graduation from Cal State Fullerton in 1982. The next few years
were busy but exciting as he passed his CPA exam, began his career as an accountant, and
became a father to a little girl on December 28th, 1983. Four years later, Rebecca was joined
by a little brother, Mark, on March 10th, 1988.
While the children were young, Darrel’s career took him from a required public CPA firm to a
private company and then finally on to a smaller construction company, where he retired in May
2021 after over 30 years of service. He often joked that he was “just a bean counter” at work,
but at home he enjoyed teaching his kids to ride bikes, going fishing, camping, and hunting with
his family and his friends, watching his son play baseball and his daughter read lots of books,
cooking good food, and listening to classical music. In his later years, he picked up cycling with
friends and a new hobby: helping his wife nanny their daughter’s little boy and girl while she was
at work.
Darrel and Peggy faithfully attended and served at Corona Evangelical Free Church
(Northpoint) for 26 years, then at Sandals Church in Riverside for several years, and finally at
The Bridge Church in Chino. Darrel took great pride in getting to see and hear his son preach as
The Bridge’s Lead Pastor. He and Peggy were looking forward to visiting Israel next September
with their son, daughter-in-law, and other members from the church.
Darrel is survived by his wife Peggy (Mole) Lohman; his daughter Rebecca Applegate (Zachary
Applegate) and grandchildren Wilder and Aurora Applegate; his son Mark Lohman (Rachel
Lohman) and grandchildren Parker and Eden Lohman ( and one on the way); his brother David
Lohman (Harriett Lohman); his sister Lisa Lohman; and his niece Holly Reinhard (Michael
Reinhard) and nephew Brian Lohman.
Darrel’s life is being celebrated and remembered at The Bridge Church in Chino, CA on
Tuesday, Nov. 14th at 10am. The address is 7776 Pine Ave Chino, 91708. In lieu of flowers, the
family would be honored if donations were made in memory of Darrel Lohman to The Bridge
Church Benevolence Fund at http://thebridgechino.org/give.
