David Bryan Potts

December 13, 1949 — April 28, 2021

David Bryan Potts, loving husband and father, went home to the Lord on April 28, 2021. He was surrounded by his family. He was 71 years old. Dave was born December 13, 1949 in Marblehead, Massachusetts. He was the third child of six children (Kenny, Kendra, Dave, Les, Dennis, Dorren) born to Kenneth and Mary Potts. The family moved to Huntington Beach, California in 1958. Dave attended Huntington Beach High School and spent many days surfing the waves before class began. While working as the shoe manager at KMart, Dave met the love of his life, Debra Morton. Their love was a true "Blue Light Special"! They were married at St. Joachim Catholic Church on June 16,1973, just nine months after their love story began. Falling in love with Deb came with a signing bonus: seven brothers and sisters-in-law. Dave and Deb were blessed with their first child Kristen in 1974, followed by Greg, James, and Melissa all within five years. Dave was a loving father who thrived on being involved in his childrens lives. He is remembered by his kids for his love of technology, his many trips to Sam's Club, and his ability to drop everything to help anyone who needed him. His unwavering faith along with his gentle and kind spirit showed his kids how to live and treat others. Dave began working for the US Post Office in 1979. He was a faithful employee who took pride in delivering the mail despite "rain, snow, sleet, or hail" or what was more often, in Corona, extreme heat. Dave became the Manager of New Growth, or as his colleagues called him, "Special Project Man". He was often given acclaim for his safe driving, never once having an accident while on the job. One of the highlights of his career was being able to run the Olympic Torch while representing the Post Office. After serving 33 years as a mail carrier, Dave hung up his satchel and began many years of golfing, surfing, and camping with his family. Dave's faith was always at the forefront in everything he did. He helped to teach Religious Education to first graders alongside his wife Deb for many years. He could often be seen cooking at the Friday Fish Fry Night at St. Matthew Catholic Church where he and Deb were longtime parishioners. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mary, and his brothers Kenneth and Dennis. Dave is survived by his wife, Deb, his four children Kristen, Greg, Jim, Melissa and their spouses, nine grandchildren, and many loving cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Dave will be laid to rest in Corona, California on May 13, 2021. A service will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church with an interment service at Sunny Slope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Dave's wish was for donations in his name to be made to St. Jude's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or at http://www.stjude.org.
