Deana Rae Alves

Deana Rae Alves was a lifelong resident of Riverside. Born to Beverley and Frederick Harrington at Riverside Community Hospital on May 11, 1961, she grew up in Glen Avon attending Glen Avon Elementary and Jurupa Junior High School. At age 13, she moved across town to Riverside where she attended Arlington High School. It was at her home on Overland Street where she met the boy next door who became the love of her life, Buddy Alves. Bud and Deana were married on February 28, 1981 and welcomed twins, Cassandra and Joseph, later that year. They had another daughter, Christina, three years later. Deana loved children and attended RCC where she earned her Associates degree in Early Childhood. She worked for JUSD for 20 years, first as a HeadStart teachers aide and then as a HeadStart teacher. She loved her church and spent many hours serving people there. Deana was known for her talent in cake decorating. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, baking, camping, and traveling to new places. She passed away in her home, with her husband and children by her side, on July 29, 2017 after a long battle with a rare brain disease called semantic dementia. She is survived by her husband, Bud; children Cassandra Jones (Jeff), Joseph Alves (Natalie), Christina Alves; grandchildren Maurina, Amber, Jeremy, Aubrey, Dominic, Raelynn, Cody, Adriana, Ryder and Zachary; siblings Michael Harrington (Tina), Jeff Harrington (Starla), Ellen Taylor (David) and Claudia Harrison (Dale). A non-profit was established in her honor (The DEANA Foundation) to help other families struggling with dementia.
