Derrick Lamarr Mitchell

Derrick Lamarr Mitchell was born in Tacoma, Washington, on March 28, 1967. He was the first child born to Warren and Charlene Mitchell. When Derrick was six months old, his parents relocated to Los Angeles, CA., where he grew up along with two siblings; his brother, Stephan and sister, Charmaine (Nikki). After his senior year, Derrick took a trip to San Diego to join the military. He passed the test for the Marine Corp. but later decided that maybe ("cold feet") he would wait a while before entering. Derrick was always a very lovable and kindhearted person. He had a smile that brightened his face and was welcoming to others. In 1987, God blessed Derrick with his first child; Derrick Jr. He was blessed again in 1992 with his daughter Chanelle; both of whom he loved dearly. Later in his life, during a ten year relationship, Derrick had three stepchildren whom he loved; Kenya, Marcus and Ronald. In 2005, while living in Houston, Texas, Derrick suffered a tragic head injury. By God's grace, he made a long, remarkable recovery. His relationship with God was always in the forefront of his conversation. He carried, read, and quoted his Bible frequently. There was not a conversation he had without giving his praise to God. His favorite phrase was "AMEN!!" and he would often say "Our lives are already written" Derrick loved sports and was an avid fan of the Dodgers, Lakers, and the San Francisco 49rs. During any game, the phone would ring, and his Dad knew it was Derrick calling to talk about the game. Derrick also enjoyed sketching, and often expressed his thoughts through his drawings. Monday, April 5, 2021, Derrick was called home for eternal peace and rest. To cherish his loving memory are his two children, Derrick Mitchell Jr. and Chanelle Alvaro; five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Judah, Jenisis, Ailani, Jordan; parents Warren and Charlene Mitchell; brother Stephan Mitchell, sister Charmaine Mitchell; nieces and nephews, Ne'Shelle, Marquise, Kameron, Emmera, Javon and Anaya; grandmother Dorothy Stewart; aunts and uncles, Deborah Taylor (Frank) , Gene Wilson, Perry Wilson, Roxanna Purfoy (Larry), Charles Mitchell; cousins Tashi Bailey (Joseph), Eto Wilson, Kevin Clair, Anthony Wilson (Heather), Ron Dozier(Gwen), Mark Dozier (MaryAnn), Eric Dozier, Jahmar Taylor, Jaison Taylor, Jarred Taylor, Frankie Taylor, Devontae Gaither, Cheyenne Gaither, Kechara Clair, Michelle White, Ivan White, Vincent White, Lance Mitchell (Alma), Shareen Mitchell, Warren Purfoy (Kellie), DeShaun Mitchell (Heather), Dion (Scootie) Purfoy, Roxanna (Sanna) Purfoy; a host of other cousins, great uncles and aunts and friends.
