Elaine Renee Stangel

Elaine Renee Stangel was born in Oakland, California on October 31, 1941. She attended high school in Huntington Beach, California. After graduating high school she attended Long Beach State and was a cheerleader, this is where she met her football quarterback husband, Robert Stangel. Elaine and Robert were married in January of 1961. Elaine had a love for education and after graduating with a Bachelors Degree from Long Beach State in 1968, she enrolled in a Masters program at Azusa Pacific University and graduated in 1973. Elaine was a Physical Education teacher and an Athletic Coach at Sherman Indian High School from 1973 to 1990. She was a beloved volleyball, basketball, track and field, and cross country coach. Elaine was loved as a coach and mentor. In 1980-1981 Elaine was named the CIF Coach of the Year. Elaines love for sports was definitely known, as she would run up and down the sidelines of the football field, keeping stats, assisting Robert with his head football coaching duties, by making him aware of the amount of time outs he had left. She retired at 50 years of age and continued to work with providing services to disabled adults, and was the treasure of the Board for Supporting Unlimited Possibilities, Inc. Elaine passed at her home in Riverside, California on November 29, 2017. Elaine leaves behind her husband, Robert Stangel; her daughter Deborah Stangel; her son, Robert Stangel Jr, and her four grandchildren Chasen and Savannah Stangel, John and Katie Joseph. Services will be held at St. Catherines of Alexandria Catholic Church in Riverside, California on Wednesday, December 6 at 3:00pm for her Rosary. The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 10:00am. St. Catherines of Alexandria is located at 7005 Brockton Ave Riverside, CA. 92506. Gravesite services will be private for family only.
