It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elridge “Ridge” Bemis on November 14, 2024, at the remarkable age of 100. Ridge was born in Manchester, Indiana, in 1924, and his life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and service to others.
Ridge’s childhood was filled with the joy of music, where he mastered the trumpet and nurtured a love for the arts. His education began at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, continued at Long Beach City College, and culminated in a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA.
A proud World War II veteran, Ridge served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army. Following his military service and college graduation, Ridge embarked on a distinguished 30-year career as an aerospace administrator at Interstate Electronics, retiring in 1989.
In March 1980, Ridge married the love of his life, Mary, in Whittier, California. Their 44 years of marriage were marked by unwavering love, companionship, and shared adventures. After retirement, the couple relocated to St. George, Utah, where Ridge dedicated himself to volunteering as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). Through this vital program, Ridge made an enduring impact on the lives of abused and neglected children, embodying his lifelong commitment to helping others.
Ridge was a man of diverse talents and interests. He found joy in golf, photography, woodworking, and flying fixed-wing aircraft. As the President of the Skylarks Flying Club of Southern California, Ridge shared his passion for aviation with others. His vibrant spirit and boundless curiosity touched everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, five children, and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and resilience.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, an organization whose mission reflects Ridge’s lifelong dedication to service and community.
Ridge’s life was a shining example of integrity, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
