Erman Carroll Christofferson Sr.

November 18, 1933 — January 22, 2024

Erman Christofferson Sr., a resident of Parker, Arizona, passed away on January 22, 2024. Born on November 18, 1933, in Langford, South Dakota, was the son of Eric and Clara Christopherson. Erman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Alice Christofferson, his daughter Lisa Marie, his brother Norman Christofferson, and great-grandson George Hoyt Jr. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Wanita Hoyt (Michael Sr.), Kathy Payne (Steve), Erman Christofferson Jr. (Maureen), and Lori Basso (Anthony Sr.). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, his sister Anita Skjonsberg, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Erman served in the Korean War from 1953-to 1958, earning four bronze stars and 2 Purple Hearts. In 1954, he married the love of his life Alice and returned to her after the war to raise their four children. After working as a farmer in Langford, South Dakota, until 1965, Erman and his family moved to California, where he transitioned to building pools for Strands. In 1973, he established his own business, Christofferson Excavation and Grading for over 20 years. In pursuit of his dream, Erman and Alice relocated to Galena, Missouri, in 1995 to become a cattle rancher.

Following Alice’s passing, Erman moved to Parker, Arizona, enjoying river life while being close to his children and companion, Bonnie Tonellato. Bonnie stood by his side through the challenges of dementia, being a steadfast companion.

Erman was not only a dedicated husband and father but also a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a deep love for his family and treasured his friendships. His infectious smile made him the life of every party. You could always tell Erman was in the room from the crowd and roar of laughter that came from his being the center of attention. A true cowboy at heart he is riding into the sunset and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
