Gabriela Sanchez Perez

Gabriela was born on March 18th, 1930, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. On December 22nd, 1949, she married Antonio Marquez Perez in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. Over the next 32 years, they had five children; Gabriella, Jesus, Martha, Carlos and Rosalinda. On January 4th, 1950, Gabriela and her husband arrived in the United States. Starting in San Ysidro, CA, they found their way to Oxnard. During this time, they opened a restaurant called The Right Spot where she worked as a cook. Later, in 1957, Gabriella and Antonio settled in Corona, CA. It is here where the family would establish their legacy. They opened their own restaurant, called Tonys Hacienda. The family lived in the large building where the business was located. Their lives were very much centered around the restaurant and the demands of keeping the business afloat. Eventually, the family moved out of the building and into their own home. The building that once housed their restaurant stands to this day, now occupied by a new owner and restaurant. Gabriela lost her husband to cancer in 1991. Despite this incredible loss, she always kept her faith in God and kindness in her heart. Those who knew her can all attest to what a selfless and caring person she was; Through the years, she took in many relatives and family friends. Always benevolent, with a meal to offer, stories to tell, and a helping hand to lend. She also personally cared for several family members in their final days, including her husband. Her legacy continues, with her surviving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who have known her and spent time in the Perez family home. She will be sorely missed and remembered for all that she gave to her family, friends, faith, and the community at large.
