George D’Angelo

On November 26, 2022, George (Dee) D'Angelo passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones at his side. He was born on January 18, 1929, in Akron Ohio, the son of Joseph and Rose (Dinardo) D'Angelo. He attended Garfield High School, class of 1948. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which became the U.S. Air Force in 1947. While in the Air Force, in 1951, he met Nancy McDonald, and she gave him three wonderful children. He served his country proudly for 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam wars and was stationed in Illinois, Ohio, Alaska, Guam, Pakistan, and California. He received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He graduated from the Strategic Air Command NCO Academy and was named NCO of the month as Sergeant Major of the 3498th support group at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois in 1959. He retired at March AFB in Riverside, CA at the rank of Master Sergeant. He most enjoyed his last 5-year assignment as a member of the Air Force Special Security Office while attached to the Headquarters of the 15th Air Force in California. He then started a second career at Seven-Up bottling company in San Bernardino, CA, as a production inventory clerk and forklift operator. He retired from 7up after 22 years. Dee was a star athlete and was MVP of the fast-pitch softball league at Wright-Patterson AFB in 1959. He bowled and played golf well into his advanced years. He managed his son's little league team, the Yankees, and his daughter's slow-pitch softball team, Dee's Hustlers. He was a fervent fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Dee was predeceased by his parents, his brother John and his sister Frances. He is survived by his three children, Micheile, Valeria (David), and Michael (Carol). He loved his grandchildren, Matthew, Steven, Katie and Deena and his great-grandchildren, Ella and William. Dee is also survived by his special love, Dorothy and her wonderful family, and by many loving step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dee was very grateful for his long life as he was able to watch his children grow into adulthood. A celebration of his life will be held at Sierra Memorial Chapel, 4933 La Sierra Ave, Riverside, CA 92505. The celebration begins Dec 6, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.
