Glenda Fay Butcher

January 25, 1943 — December 8, 2024

Glenda Fay (Bentley) Butcher passed away peacefully on December 8 in Riverside, CA. After suffering a stroke 8 years earlier she had been lovingly cared for by her husband of 37 years, Edward Butcher. After her stroke Glenda experienced a diminished quality of life yet she remained determined and optimistic to enjoy her interaction with all of her children, grandchildren, and many friends.

In 1943, Glenda was the first-born child to Glenn and Charleen Bentley in Monahans, Texas. She grew up in an Air Force family with two brothers Glenn and Steve Bentley and enjoyed an early life in both the US and abroad. She spoke frequently of her educational experiences at Bushy Park, UK and London Central High School.

She was a 54 year resident of Riverside, CA where she raised a family and also worked in educational administration for Riverside Unified School District. Glenda met Edward Butcher in 1978 and the two shared their love and lives for a decade and ultimately married in 1988. Their marriage blended the combined 6 kids and created a loving environment for all.

Glenda was an active member at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed the rich friendships that were nurtured over the decades. She is survived by her husband, Edward and their six children: Ray Butcher, Tammie Smentek, Dawna Penny Calderone, Sandra Penny, Darren Penny, and Melinda George. Glenda also warmly embraced her children’s spouses and loved them as her own, as well as sixteen grandchildren and multiple great and great-great grandchildren who enriched their family and lives.

A celebration of life service has not yet been determined, and a future announcement will be made about this event in January 2025. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that Glenda be remembered by a donation to the Food Pantry at Magnolia Church (www.magonline.com) in her name.
