Gloria Jean Byrd

February 23, 1942 — July 14, 2014

On February 23, 1942, God blessed Lonnie L. Shoffner and Ella Louis Jackson with their first born; Gloria Jean Shoffner. Gloria the first of five children grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and attended Pearly Gates Baptist Church as a child. Gloria attended and graduated from Manassas High School, and went on to attend Le Moyne College where she majored in English. She met and married Marvin E. Scott, Sr. in 1961 and to this union, two children were born; Marvin E. Scott, Jr. and Pamela D. Scott. In 1982, she met and married Virgil Irving Byrd, Jr. and to this union a son was born; Kenneth A. Byrd. Gloria loved the Lord dearly and you could find her reading her bible every day. She was small in stature but, had a heart that was bigger than life. Gloria was a very organized woman, she loved the simple things in life; watching Lifetime television, crime shows, eating pizza and menudo, drinking her tea every morning and eating Cheerios. Gloria was a good steward of the Lord and enjoyed helping others. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil I. Byrd; her parents, Lonnie L. Shoffner, Ella Louise Jackson Shoffner Jones; her sister, Katherine L. Jones-Caviness and her brother, Brother Robert “Bob” H. Shoffner. Left to cherish Glorias precious memories are her children, Marvin E. Scott, Jr., Pamela D. Scott and Kenneth A. Byrd; grandchildren, Tamesha Calvin, Denisha Calvin, Kheri Scott, Chaz Scott, Cameron Scott, Timeryl Fambrough, Kytana Byrd, Keith Markham and Keisha Markham; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Thompson, Zaveon Barginear, Anyah Barginear, Deion Mack, MaryJayne Boyd, Aaliyah Boyd, Kali Boyd and Sophia Scott; daughter in law, Rita Scott, future daughter-in-law, Angela Smith; sister, Lonnie Rayford; brother, Henry Shoffner; Caregiver, Elizabeth Rayford, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends Service Location Not Available Saturday 7/26, 11:00 am Cemetery Riverside National Cemetery Staging Area #4 Thursday 1/1 Riverside National Cemetery Staging Area #4 Monday 7/28, 11:01 am
