At the blessed age of 92, Helen has passed away peacefully while surrounded by family in Corona, CA on August 6, 2018 where she resided for 70 years. Daughter of Lutie Oreta and Alvis Omega Turner, she was born on March 1, 1926, in Lakeview, Texas. Helen and her family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where she received a degree in Registered Nursing from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and later moved to Riverside, California where she later received her Master's degree from CSULA. She worked as Director of Nursing at Corona Community Hospital before retiring and pursuing her writing career. She published in both short fiction and novel length fiction. Helen loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and enjoyed writing, nursing and traveling internationally. Helen belonged to a number of clubs and organizations including Corona Boat and Ski Club, Woman's Improvement Club, Red Hat Society, Soroptimists, Romance Writers of America and Orange County Chapter of Romance Writers. Helen was proceeded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Virgil DeVere, and her daughter Suzanne Dee. She is survived by her son, Stephen (Donna) of Bangor, California, and daughter, Devera (Gary) Tomes of Corona, California, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 10am at Thomas Miller Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in her name to a charity of the donor's choice.
