It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Herman Joseph Wade Jr. (lovingly known as “Joe”), who left us on June 30, 2025, at the age of 95. A beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, Joe touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
Born on August 28, 1929, in Los Angeles, California, Joe was the son of Herman Joseph Wade Sr. and Phyllis Charlotte Harrington. Joe is survived by his brother, William Wade Sr. His early years in Los Angeles were filled with friends, sports, social clubs at school, and working as a painter, then a General Contractor. He also was a restaurant owner of the Mariposa Inn, Love’s BBQ, and the Magic Recipe in West Covina and Love’s BBQ in La Mirada and a hotel owner. Joe built the beautiful Cliff’s Hotel in Pismo Beach. Joe served in the Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War.
On July 29, 1950, Joe married Myrna Jean Bixenstein, who remained his devoted wife until the time of his death. Together, they had three children, Joe Jr. (decd), Carol Sandham, and Marilyn Horsley. They built a loving home for their family filled with adventure. Joe and Myrna served as the Leaders for their daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and enjoyed all the camping adventures during that tenure.
Joe was proud to be a grandfather to James Wade, Mariko Wade, Michael Wade, Ryan Horsley, Megan Horsley, and Wade Scott AND great-grandfather to Liam Wade, Gavin Wade, Brynn Wade, Joshua Wade, Finley Wade, Gatlen Heath, Greyson Heath, Griffin Heath, Kairi Horsley, and Zeppelin Horsley. They all brought him great joy!
As we bid farewell to Joe, our wonderful father, our wonderful Grandfather, our wonderful Great -Grandfather, we remember the joy, laughter, and love he brought into our lives. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to guide and uplift us. Rest in peace, Joe, and thank you for the beautiful memories you leave behind! You will forever be missed!
