Captain Ian Paul Ott passed away at Hoffman Hospice in Bakersfield on August 24th. He was 51. Ian was born in Canada (Vancouver, British Columbia) and raised in Livingston, MT and Shafter, CA. After high school he graduated from Carleton College (Political Science) and then earned his graduate degree from Georgetown University (Political Science), with studies abroad at Oxford College in St Edmund's Hall, earning top marks in all of his college studies. Ian loved our Lord, Jesus Christ deeply and never stopped “giving it his all” in everything he pursued in life. He dedicated his career to serving his country both as a civilian and an Air Force officer in the intelligence arena on and off starting in 1996 until his honorable discharge in 2014, earning medals for his work related to national defense and the global war on terrorism. Ever an athlete, Ian was an outstanding pitcher and outfielder, was invited to try out for the Cleveland Indians, and continued playing through his undergraduate years. His passions outside of work included hiking in national parks, bird watching, video game collecting/playing, guitar playing, and avidly following his favorite sports teams. Ian is survived by his brother Evan and wife, Devon, nephews, Aiden and Keagan, and niece, Emersyn, of Livermore, CA; and brother Kevin and wife, Amy, and niece, Lucy, of Conneaut, OH. His father, Don Ott, and mother, Sally Ott, preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 6th, at 11:30 a.m. in Corona, California, at the Corona Sunnyslope Cemetery.
