Irmgard Maria Rosa Walters-Hall went toe with the Lord on December 21, 2023. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She had celebrated her 98th birthday in October, surrounded by friends and family.
Irmgard was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, the only girl in a family of boys. She grew up during Hitler’s rise to power and was drafted into the German military during World War II, but worked for the United States army during the occupation period. This is where she started to learn English.
She met her first husband, Paul Walters, when she was working at a Woolworth store in Frankfurt. He came in to buy a pack of chewing gum. After a year-long courtship, they were married and gradually made their way to California, where Paul had been born and raised. She began the process to become a naturalized citizen soon after.
The family moved to Corona, California in 1963. Soon after, she enrolled in Chaffey College, earning an AA degree in accounting, before transferring to California State University, Fullerton. Shortly before graduating, Irmgard was offered a job in the Accounting Department at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco. She continued working there until she retired.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Corona for many years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deaconess, and choir member. Several years ago, she began attending Northpoint Evangelical Church in Corona and attended there as long as she was physically able to do so.
Ten years after the death of her first husband, she married Willis Hall of Corona and became a member of his extended family.
Irmgard will be remembered for her devotion to God, love of family, love of her adopted country, and her impeccable sense of style.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeannine Walters and Cheryl Ann Walters de Rodriguez; son-in-law, Alfredo Rodriguez; granddaughters, Julia Rodriguez and Gina Buege; Gina’s husband, Brad Buege; step-children, Ron and Janis Hall; their spouses, Dawn Hall and Don Crowley; and their children, Nathaniel Hall and Corey Crowley-Hall; and her youngest brother, Gerhard Ricker. She had two generations of nieces and nephews in Germany, and four generations in the United States.
