James Allen May, Sr., a long-time resident of Corona, California, and lastly residing in Chino, passed away on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2017. James was born in Kearny, Nebraska to Archie and Frances May on April 30, 1943. A few years later he was joined by his baby sister, Jean Ann. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961. He served in San Diego, Oakland, overseas tours, and served in the Vietnam War where he was given the nickname “Gunner”. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1965 without medical disability (despite having his foot run over by a tank. In 1965 he went to work at San Luis Obispo County Hospital as an Orderly where he met his future wife Linden Christine Martz. James and Linden were married in 1966. They soon enlarged their family with the birth of their daughter, Doris, in 1968 and then son James, Jr. in 1971. In 1969 James went to work for the Department of Corrections where he worked as an LVN and for the next 30 years. During this time the family moved to Corona where he would live for many years. He loved reading, especially Western novels, and creating his woodworking projects in his garage. He enjoyed his time and involvement as a volunteer with the Corona Elks Lodge and was extremely proud holding several officer positions. James will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Doris Christine May, his son, James May Jr., and his sister Jean Mulligan. He is preceded in death by his wife, Linden, and his parents.
