James H. Schreiber James Harold Schreiber, age 92, of Buena Park, California, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020, at the Gardens of Riverside Memory Care in Riverside, California. He was born on January 7, 1928, on the Schreiber farm near Yates Center, Kansas, the son of Carl August and Hedvig Charlotte (Toburen) Schreiber. On August 24, 1951, he was married to Beverly Joan Kendall in Montebello, California. James joined the Marine Corps on his 18th birthday in 1946. He served in China and Guam. He returned to Kansas City, Missouri, where he was in the reserves. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean War and served at Camp Pendleton, California. While in the Marine Corps he started going by the nickname, Jim. After his discharge and marriage, he settled in Montebello and eventually Buena Park, California, where he built a home for his family and lived for over 47 years. He owned and operated a service station in Paramount, California. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Whittier, California, for 56 years, serving as an usher and trustee. He was a member of the Paramount Rotary Club from 1970 until the present. James is survived by his wife, two daughters Diane Jeffreys and husband Greg of Modesto, CA and Lori Erickson of Riverside, CA; two grandchildren, Jill Sparkman of Mammoth Lakes, CA and Jason McCallum and wife Elizabeth of Fairview, TN; two great-grandchildren, Noah McCallum, attending Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN and Marisa McCallum of Fairview, TN.; and one sister-in-law, Donna Schreiber of Kansas City, Mo, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Carter and Dorothy Peterson; three brothers Arvon (Bud), Robert (Bob) and Dale Schreiber, two brothers-in-law, Earl Carter and Warren Peterson and two sisters-in-laws Bertie Schreiber and Berniece Schreiber. He was survived by two days by his son-in-law, Ted Erickson. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 16, at 11 am at the Evangelical United Methodist Church with Pastors John Atu and Dwight Sullivan officiating. Interment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery with military service on Tuesday, March 17, at 1:45 pm.
