Jerome Walter Salavec

September 22, 1944 — March 18, 2024

Husband, father, and Pop, Jerome “Jerry” Walter Salavec of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 18th, 2024. Born in Yonkers, NY on September 22, 1944 to Walter and Dorothy (nee McGarry) Salavec, he was a graduate of Westchester Community College and Fordham University. Jerry was a proud combat veteran and served honorably in Vietnam from ’66 -’67 in the 4th Infantry, B Company, Red Warriors. His war military service forever changed his world view but, through which he developed lifelong bonds with his brothers in arms, often attending reunions. While serving in Vietnam, he was shot down twice while riding in helicopters and showed his family true courage when he boarded a helicopter again on a Grand Canyon trip in 2019. His first marriage bore him two beautiful daughters and he married second, Sally McClintock in 1996, in St. Croix, USVI. He worked for many years at Marsh & McClellan in NYC, retiring early in the 90’s, to start his own private claims adjustment business. Along with Sally, he also owned and operated McClintock’s restaurant for almost 14 years in Pelham, NY. Known for his trademark humor, good nature and often holding a can of Budweiser, he found friendships wherever he went. Together with Sally, they traveled the world and had many, many memorable adventures. Places like Lake George, NY, Deep Creek Lake, MD and St. Croix were particularly special places in his heart. He was a long-time fan to his New York Mets, Giants, Knicks and Rangers. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, younger brother, Walter, and dear cousin Bob Burke. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sally; loving daughters Jennifer (Steve) Ruffler, Sherman, CT and Lee (Rick Carter) Salavec, Wallkill, NY; caring stepsons Brad (Paola) Serrecchia Madison, CT and Ryan (Meredyth) Serrecchia, Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren Justin, Fiona, Jordan and Christian; sibling in-laws John, Marge and Maddy McClintock; as well as several cousins. He was a true legend to all who knew him.
