Joan Mary Mckinnon

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Mary McKinnon announces her passing on Friday, 26 January, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Joan was a resident of Riverside PostAcute Care for several years and had spent much of her last two years as a patient of Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center. Joan was the daughter of Ronald and Vera McGrath. She was born 21 October, 1936 in St. Johns, Newfoundland on Canadas Atlantic Coast. She was predeceased by her mother, father and brother, Ronald McGrath Jr. In her formative years, she attended the St. Johns Academies. Throughout High School and College, she received frequent accolades for her Basketball skills and had a love for the Theater; singing, dancing and stage acting. After graduation, she worked as a Switchboard Operator at the local USAF Base. After attending College, Joan left St. Johns to become a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Medical Group. Upon completion of her training, she was assigned to #1 Fighter Wing in Marville, France. It was there she met her husband-to-be John D. “Bud” McKinnon, and the two were married on 23 January, 1960. Joan and Bud had 3 children, Paul, Heather and Michael; 7 grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica, Jason, John, Tyler, Hannah and Edie; one son-in-law, Randy; and two daughters-in-law, Eileen and Sondra. On her travels through life, Joan left lasting impressions and created wonderful relationships with so many. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
