John( AKA) Jack was born in Newport Beach, California on May 12, 1930 to Roy Leo Shafer and Marion Francis Shafer (Callahan). John was on the nine children.
Barbara L Taylor (Shafer) was born April 20, 1931 to Guerdan F Taylor and Verna Taylor (Erbe) in Wilmar, California. Barbara has one older brother.
Jack met Barbara while working at the Mesa Movie Theater in Costa Mesa, California. Jack and Barbara were high school students at Harbor High in Newport Beach, California. Jack use to walk Barbara home from school . Jack said he wanted to walk Barbara home, so that no other guy would get close to Barbara.
As high school sweet hearts their love for each other turned to a Seventy Two year marriage on September 9, 1950.
In March of 1951 Jack was drafted into the army. Jack served as a Corporal in a Mash unit during the Korean War. While Jack was over in Korea, Barbara gave birth to the first of six children.
In February of 1953 Jack was transferred to the army reserve. He resumed working for his dad at Shafer Plumbing in Newport Beach, with his five brothers.
Barbara stayed home raising their six children. As the children grew and began their lives Barbara started china painting which lead to Shafer Bath and Tile Shop in Newport Beach. Barbara's address tiles can still be found on many homes in Lido Ise and Catalina.
Jack, Barbara and their six children (Linda, Donna, Barbara, John, Mark and David) lived in Costa Mesa. The family enjoyed many camping and fishing trips, Fishing was one of Jack's passions, so many of the family vacation were planned at the mouth of the Klamath River in Northern California and Yellowstone in Wyoming.
Jack and Barbara 's children grew and so did their families
They were survived by ( Linda, Barbara, Mark, and David)
Their grandchildren - Michelle Battles, Mark Avey, Lauren Shafer, Zachary Shafer, Daniel Shafer and Keola Akana.
Their great grandchildren - Bryan Ward, Tyler Case, Benjamin Avey, and Jackson Braswell
