John Richard Holmes, aged 93, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, in Laguna Hills, California. Born on June 16, 1931, in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, to Godfrey and Virginia Holmes, John spent his formative years on the family farm. He attended Raymond High School and later served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia from 1952 to 1954.  John pursued higher education at Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. His career was marked by significant contributions to the research and development of laser disc technology, particularly in the areas of plastic composition and injection molding processes.   In 1954, John married his sweetheart, Hazel Marie Fairbanks, with whom he shared a devoted partnership of 61 years until her passing in 2015. Together, they brought 11 children into the world: Russell (deceased in 2014), Richard (deceased in 1956), Mark, Glen, Gerald, Carolyn, Jennifer, Phillip, Barbara, Robert, and Marie. Later in life, John married his neighbor, Arlane Hart, and they shared 5 loving years before her passing in early 2024.  A devout and lifelong member of his church, John found profound fulfillment in service. He served as a bishop three times and as a counselor in two stake presidencies - Salem, New Hampshire, and Garden Grove, California. Known for his resourcefulness and knack for fixing almost anything, John was a hands-on problem solver with a deep love for the outdoors. He was a music lover and often sang in his church choir or as a soloist accompanied by his wife Hazel. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed gardening, backpacking, daily walks, and embarking on family camping adventures in the Sierra Nevada mountains.  John's legacy is carried on by his surviving nine children along with 42 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. John Richard Holmes will be remembered for his unwavering faith, commitment to family, strong work ethic, and generous spirit of service.  Funeral services will be held on January 11, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Corona Stake Center, 1510 Taber Ave. Corona CA, 92881.
