June Clara Mahaffey was born in Quapaw, OK on 12/06/1931 as Clara June Barcus. Raised in Joplin, MO until her pre-teen years, when she moved to her sister Marys in Cupertino, CA. She studied hard and also worked hard as a prune picker. As a young adult she became a Nanny and did that throughout her college career. June graduated with honors from San Jose State and went on to the Biblical Seminary in New York City, NY. She then moved back to California were she worked a short time as a substitute teacher prior to starting her career as a social worker with San Bernardino County. There Mom worked her way up to Supervisor. In the late 60s, she met a wonderful man, Dr. Theodore R. Mahaffey. They were wed 11/01/1968. Her first and only child, Amy, was born 3 years later. June was a wonderful stay at home Mom. She chaperoned tons of field trips and headed up the school recycling program for over 5 years at Calvary Christian School. Down the road she baked homemade, whole wheat cinnamon raisin bread and sold the loaves to raise money for Missionaries. In addition she rolled all her coins to perpetuate their ministry. In the recent past, she started volunteering in the churchs now New Hope, food ministry program. From food prep, serving, to washing dishes, June did it ALL. She also distributed the supplies to the needy that came from the food pantry. Mom was a devoted student of the Bible. She started EVERY day in “quiet time” with the Lord. Her passions included bird watching, reading, attending dog shows, playing with and loving on her many cats and dogs over the years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ted; her father, Charles Barcus; mother, Amy Mable McCullogh; all of her siblings; and two step-daughters, Loreen Linda. She is survived by her daughter, Amy and her partner, Michael Vazquez; 6 nephews, Manny, Bernie, Russell, Rob, Rick, Steve and all their lovely wives children; 2 nieces, Marcella and Jerilynn; her brother in law, Charles Hoff; sister in law, Aileen Gutierrez; her 1st cousin, John Wisewell and their families; her great friend, Genelle Campbell; her daughter, Geneen Garris and her husband, Robert; and son, Landen her Akita dog Mariska. June went to be with the our Heavenly Father on April 10, 2014. Flowers and cards are welcomed or donations may be made to Akita Rescue.
