Kapila Jalota, 63, left for her heavenly home at the blessed feet of Mata Rani on February 16, 2023, after being hospitalized for several weeks in the ICU. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends. Kapila was born in Phagwara, India to her parents Amarjit and Swaraj Syal. Though her family lived simply and worked hard, Kapila remembered her early years with fondness - her time as a teacher, her relationships with her colleagues and friends, and her time singing at the nearby temple. After graduating from college, Kapila worked as an English teacher in Phagwara, helping to support her family. After getting married to Danesh Jalota in December 1981, they welcomed their son Ankur Jalota into the world. Danesh's work took them to Chandigarh, but they came back home to Phagwara often. In 1985, they took a big leap of faith and immigrated to the United States, where they endeavored to build a better future for Ankur and Annie. Kapila held a variety of jobs during her life - her first job was selling Avon products. She then worked at Cherokee International where she found lifelong friends. She took some time off after both these jobs to focus on raising her children when her daughter Annie was born. She loved children and returned to the workforce some years later to work at Babies R Us in the toys department. After another break, she worked at two different beauty salons. After leaving the workforce, she found joy in babysitting and formed everlasting relationships with the children she raised like her own. Kapila, beloved by family and friends, is remembered for her big smile and warm, generous heart. Many friends and family describe her as a pure soul. She was lighthearted and playful, and her conversations were full of jokes and laughter. However, she was also empathetic and deeply felt the pain of others - she was always motivated to find ways to help people in need, including friends and family in difficult situations as well as underprivileged children in India. Outside of the home, she was a lifelong devotee of Durga Maa, and loved to sing bhajans and bhents at jagrans at the Radha Raman Mandir, other temples she visited for special festivals, or at people's homes. Her Hindu faith was a big part of her identity since she had been singing at temples from a young age, and she shared her gift of song with friends. She lived a beautiful life, cut short by illness. She will be deeply missed by her husband Danesh, two children Ankur and Annie, daughter-in-law Aakansha, and a whole community of family and friends.
