Karen Kay Mcspadden

Karen Kay McSpadden February 16, 1943 - September 26, 2016 Karen Kay McSpadden passed away in her home in Oceanside, California at the age of 73. She was with her husband John McSpadden and family at the time of her passing. Karen was born and raised by her parents Irene William “Willie” Williams in Riverside, Ca. She graduated from Poly High School and attended UCLA. Her Husband John McSpadden was a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force which lead her to live in Ohio and Texas. She made her way back to Riverside where she spent most of her life as the owner of Opportunities Unlimited a Public Relations firm. As a senior she was the Pastor of Angeles by the Lake Ministry serving Canyon Lake. Before passing on Monday she wanted to thank all of her family and friends for making her life full of wonderful memories. Karen was a giver in her time and made many projects successful for others. Her passion and love in helping others was the trail she left everywhere she went. Her final request was to pray to the Lord which she started, “Lord, thank you for my fabulous life, it was a great adventure”. Those were her last words. In 1959 she was Miss Riverside. Karen was an Air Force Wife active in many organizations. She worked on numerous conservative political campaigns. She was the founder of the Riverside Multicultural Youth Festival. She served on Riversides Human Relations Commission and the Riverside Community College Board. She served as Vice President for Above the Top Events, Inc. She served on the Janet Goeske Senior Center Board. She was voted Outstanding Women of the Year, Riverside Citizen of the Year, Vital Women of the Year, Air Force Wife of the Year and Republican Party Citizen of the Year. She served on so many committees, they could not be included. Karen was most proud of her favorite project, the Riverside Chinese Pavilion, which honored the families that left China looking for a better life. She produced starred in two cable television productions, Riverside at Seven and Riverside Magazine. She was also a weekly radio host. As a writer she was a food critic for Inland Empire Magazine and she was very proud of her play, “Lonely Sunsets of Forgotten Men” which she wrote and produced. She left three unpublished novels, “Women of Smoggy City” a childrens book “Super Cats”. She was survived by her husband John McSpadden, Daughters Susanne Mardirosian Laurel McSpadden-Karmen and Son Scott Meyer. Her grandchildren include Trevor Meyer Alexandra Mardiroisan. Karens memorial service is Tuesday, October 11th at the Sierra Memorial Chapel at 11:30 AM, 4933 La Sierra Avenue, Riverside. Following the burial service at the Riverside National Cemetery at 1:30 PM, The Celebration of Her Life will be held at Susanne Ara Mardirosians Home at 2:30 PM at the address of 16241 Ponderosa Lane, Riverside.
