Kathleen Horvath, 66, of Corona, went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2023. Kathleen, the daughter of Bill McKernan and the late Eileen McKernan, was born in Dover, Delaware on September 15, 1957. After spending four years in Delaware, the young family (which included her little brother Bill) moved to California in 1961. The family exponentially grew over the next several years, and Kathleen became the eldest of eight children. The McKernan family lived in Norwalk and Cerritos in the 60s and 70s, and eventually settled in Norco in 1977. Kathleen spent most of her later years in Corona.
Kathleen graduated from Cerritos High School in 1975. She received her AA degree at Chaffey Community College in 1979. She married the late Jerry Horvath in 1983, and they were married for 34 years. They had two daughters and six grandchildren. She worked as a school bus driver for First Student, Inc. from 2012 to 2023, where she was well-regarded by her supervisors and peers for her strong work ethics.
Kathleen enjoyed playing and laughing with her kids and grandchildren. She liked going out to eat with the kiddos, particularly for pizza and ice-cream. Kathleen was known for her big, cheerful smile that could light up a football stadium! She was skilled at all types of games and puzzles. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and taking an occasional trip to the casino. Her bold and fearless nature is one of her most memorable characteristics. She enjoyed cooking, and was especially known for her lasagna, burritos and homemade chili.
Kathleen sincerely loved her family and friends. She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Garcia and Tracie Horvath both of Corona; her six grandchildren, Ashton, Andrew, Audrina, Alex, Lea and Lana; father Bill McKernan of Norco, siblings Bill McKernan of Victorville, Moira Garcia of Corona, Tim McKernan of Jurupa, Mike McKernan of Twin Peaks, Dan McKernan of Riverside and Ken McKernan of Norco. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held for Kathleen on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. The location is Thomas Miller Mortuary, 1118 E. Sixth Street, Corona, CA 92879
