Larry Gene Walder, age 88, of Corona, California, passed away peacefully January 12, 2025. “Gene” was born in Holton, Kansas on July 3, 1936, to parents Ezekiel “Zeke” and Halcie Walder. He had two older siblings; both preceded him in death.
Gene’s folks moved their family west, to Southern California, when he was a youngster. Upon graduation from Fremont High School, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces, first serving in the Navy, followed by the Air Force. He served at various bases within the states, completing his military career in South Carolina. It was there, that he met the love of his life, Frances Leitha Felder. Within six short months, they were wed. Their marriage yielded eight children; four boys and four girls. They were remarkably blessed to have shared 67 years of marriage.
Gene was a man of many interests. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and model railroads. Music, however, was his passion. Whether sitting around a campfire, at a family gathering, or at home, playing music brought him joy. His love of music was so immense, that upon his retirement, he provided entertainment in assisted living facilities. With guitar in hand, and a voice that could delight the angels, he brightened the lives of many.
Gene is survived by his wife, Frances; seven children: Tom Walder, Tim Walder, Tammy Witt, Terry Walder, Tina Lessing, Travis Walder, and Tanya Szymanski; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Gene is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Smith (2022), and one grandchild (2023).
Gene will be remembered for his sharp wit, outgoing personality, storytelling abilities, and incredible sense of humor. Above all, he will be remembered for his love and devotion to family.
In honoring Gene’s end of life wishes, no funeral service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomas Miller Mortuary of Corona, California.
Gene will be greatly missed and live on in our hearts forever.
"Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day... unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear."
