At 5:11pm on the third of January, Laura Lavonne Douthit of Eastvale, California passed away in serenity amongst beloved friends at Riverside Community Hospital.
Laura was born in Torrance, California on the fifth of November 1961, to Sharon and Charles Emmett Morris. She was the eldest of five siblings: three boys, and two girls. In the 1980’s she struck out on her own and married Kevin Fookes, with whom she had two sons, who she would eventually go on to (successfully!) raise mostly by herself as a single mother. Finally, at the turn of the new century, she met the love of her life, William Douthit, whom she married and with whom she had her only daughter.
She was a person who loved adventure and the outdoors, gardening, sharing food and hospitality, and she was more than anything else, a person who loved her family. She was generous to a fault and was willing to give anything to those she loved, even if she could not afford it, and even if it meant donating a piece of herself- literally- to save someone.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents Sharon and Emmet, her stepfather Michael Burgert Sr, and her brother Charles Morris. She is survived by her husband William Douthit, her siblings Kenneth (Sharon) Morris, Michael Burgert Jr, and Michele (Minh) Nguyen, as well as her children Lance (Shannelle) Fookes, Nicholas Fookes, and Candace Douthit, along with many cousins, three nieces, and one nephew.
A viewing for Laura will be held on the seventeenth of January 2025, from 10AM to 12PM at Thomas Miller Mortuary, 1118 E. Sixth St., Corona, CA 92879.
A celebration of life will be held separately on the twenty-fifth of January 2025, starting at 12PM at 4988 Castle Pine Ct., Jurupa Valley, CA 92509.
