Lawrence Thomas Turner

February 19, 1957 — March 13, 2014

Lawrence Thomas Turner, beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law and uncle passed away on Thursday, March 15 after a brief illness. Born on February 19th, 1957 along with his identical twin, Gary, to Linford and Maude Shafer Turner in Elmira New York, Larry grew up in Horseheads, New York along with his brothers, Gary and Bo and his sisters, Poppy and Sandy. Larry was a local success with the Horseheads High School Greenroom Players, with leading roles in many plays such as “Inherit the Wind”, “The Fantasticks”, “Man of La Mancha”, and others. He attended the University of Buffalo and continued performing in plays such as “A Midsummers Night Dream, “The Tempest” and others. Larry left school to take care of his father and after his death moved to southern California. Thanks to his sister Sandy and his “cuado”, Anselmo, and a series of fortuitous incidents, Larry met his lovely future wife, Karen Roper Turner and eventually formed a family with their two remarkable sons, Adam and Bryan. He was the favorite son-in-law of Harold and Arlene Roper. Thanks to his many talents, unique sense of humor and special personality, Larry was a success at his many professions, some of which were artisan glass cutting, work as a bilingual interpreter, and ultimately as an attorney. He worked and traveled extensively abroad and spoke several languages fluently. Everyone whose life was touched by Larry considered himself or herself to be lucky indeed. He was keenly intelligent, sensitive and generous. He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him and loved him.
