LEON HIGHTOWER peacefully passed away at his home in Corona, California on Wednesday, 19 April 2017. Leon was born on 4 July 1946 in Cromwell, Oklahoma. He was the eleventh of twelve children born to James and Lee Bertha Hightower. He received his education at Douglas High School in Wewoka, Oklahoma and attended Los Angeles South West College. Leon was inducted into the United States Army on 4 January 1966. He was promoted to a SP-5 (Specialist). He did a two- year tour in Vietnam as an Image Interpreter. After completing his tour in Vietnam, he returned to Los Angeles and opened a Night Club, called “The Forum”. After that successful adventure, he decided to try another career, and that was driving a grocer truck for Albertson. Leon retired from Albertson in 2008. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, spending time at the 24 Hour Fitness Center, bicycling, and spending quality time with family and friends. In 1996, Leon was united in matrimony with Rosalind Dipchand of Trinidad. Leon has two children, Leon Hightower Jr. and Torraye Lee Hightower. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lee Bertha; brothers, James Clarence, L.V., J.C., Harvey, Floyd, Donald Ray, Freddie and Choice; and one sister, Dorothy Larkins. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Leon Hightower Jr. (Tracy) of Bellflower, California and Torraye Lee Hightower (Judy) of Englewood, California. Leon has eight grandchildren, five live in California and three grandchildren live in Nurnberg, Germany. He had two sisters, Juanita Hightower Dyson (Franklin), and Betty Jean Hightower Davis (Dennis), and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
