Lisa Gerchy

November 14, 1958 — February 3, 2024

Lisa Gerchy, of South Bloomfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her sister's home in Corona, California, on the morning of February 3, 2024, at the age of 65. Lisa fought a long and heroic battle against cancer. Family and friends from near and far came to visit her in her final weeks. She was truly loved.

Lisa was the third of seven children born to Frank and Virginia Gerchy, November 14, 1958, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Her family moved to California in 1970. They settled into their family home in Huntington Beach in the summer of 1972. Lisa graduated from Edison High School and soon began working at the Orange County Federal Credit Union. She had a successful career at the credit union but decided to make a career change later in life. She decided to follow in her mother's footsteps. She enrolled in nursing school and took a job as a lab technician at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. She received her degree as a registered nurse at age 41 and continued to work at Hoag Hospital. In 2007, Lisa decided she wanted a change for herself and moved to Ohio. Her nursing career eventually led her to Select South Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She loved working there and formed many wonderful friendships. She was promoted to house supervisor five years ago. She only recently retired from nursing October 30, 2023.

Lisa was such a strong and independent person who absolutely loved life. She loved her family and friends beyond measure. She loved to camp, swim, whether at a beach, lake, or river. She was always up for an adventure or challenge. She learned how to grow giant pumpkins and won first place in 2011 for a pumpkin weighing 1230 lbs. She was the treasurer of the Southern Ohio Giant Pumpkin Growers. She enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews and spending time with her many dear friends. Most of all, she loved going to the casino.

Lisa is preceded in death by her father, mother, sister's Cheryl and Kathleen, and nephew Bear. Lisa is survived by her sister Susan V. Gerchy, of Shelton, CT, brother Frank J. Gerchy, Jr., his wife Carole of Corona, CA, their daughters Ashton and Allison, sister Melissa Cadman and husband Walter, of Corona, CA, her children Cheryl, Nicholas, and Andrew, sister Cynthia Nichols, of Hillsboro, OR, her children Samantha, Adam, Bethany, as well as eleven great nieces and nephews.

Lisa had an enormous heart, she was generous to a fault, was so loyal and brave. May we keep her spirit alive by remembering all of the precious times spent with her, filled with much laughter and love.
