Mae Doris Harris peacefully entered eternal rest on May 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 12, 1931, in Chambers County, Alabama, to Joe and Ruth Heard, Doris was a woman of deep faith, grace, strength, and love. Affectionately known as “Doris,” she dedicated her life to God, family, and serving others.
At an early age, Doris accepted Christ and remained devoted to her faith throughout her life. She attended 10th Street High School in West Point, Georgia, graduating in 1948 before later moving to Chicago, Illinois, where she met the love of her life, Harrice “HD” Harris, affectionately known as her “Sonny.” The two were united in marriage on September 15, 1956, and shared nearly 49 years of love, faith, and devotion together.
Doris and HD built a beautiful life centered around family while raising their four children: Douglas, Timothy, Tracey, and Corey. Throughout the years, the family lived in Illinois, South Carolina, and California, eventually settling in Orange County and later Corona, California. After moving to California, Doris became a faithful member of Second Baptist Church of Santa Ana, California. She devoted herself to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who created a home filled with warmth, prayer, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love.
A faithful servant of God, Doris was later a founding member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Santa Ana, California, and eventually worshipped faithfully at Faith Fellowship in Corona, California, under Pastor Mark Williams. She was known for her elegant spirit, kind heart, unwavering faith, and timeless sense of style.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harrice “HD” Harris; her son, Timothy A. Harris; her parents; and several siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Douglas, Tracey, and Corey; her sister, Mattie; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love and presence.
Her legacy of faith, love, family, and elegance will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
Interment is scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
A Celebration of Life honoring Doris will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 4300 Westminster Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92703.
