She was born on May 28, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to William Jr. and Irma Meaney. They preceded her in death, as well as her husband, Jack Rischard (Riverside, CA), Sister Dorothy McGuire (Cedar Rapids, IA) and first husband Robert Hawthorne (Moreno Valley, CA). Margaret graduated in 1956 from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was active in theatre, band, and several other groups. Upon graduation she went to Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. After graduation, she moved to Chicago, IL where she received additional training in Emergency and Surgical Medicine at Cook County Hospital. Margaret then moved to Greeley, CO with her good friend Gwen to work in the local hospital there. This is where she met and married her first husband Robert Hawthorne who was working as a Park Ranger in Rocky Mountain National Park. They then moved to Sunnymead, CA where she started working at Riverside Community Hospital in the ICU and Emergency Room. After leaving RCH, she continued to work as a Registered Nurse in several capacities and retired in 2009 from Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital in San Bernardino, CA. Margaret met and married her second husband Jack Rischard in 1990. They lived happily in Riverside for 26 years. She continued to live in her home after Jack's passing in 2017. In 2020, she moved to Villa Park, CA, to live with her son Tom and wife Karen. She lived there until her passing. Animals always brought her joy, especially her many Whippets. She spent many weekends training and showing them in the Southern California area. Attending the theater, playing her grand piano, and going on archery & rifle outings were some of her other enjoyments. For those who wish, she would have appreciated any remembrances be made to Guide Dogs of the Desert in Whitewater, CA or any other guide dog/pet adoption organization.
