Margarita Cruz Arzate

February 22, 1932 — April 20, 2015

Margarita Cruz Arzate Margarita Cruz Arzate was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She dedicated her life to her family and friends; and without a doubt, gave her all when it came to caring for them. Margaret will be remembered for bestowing on us many gifts, one of the most memorable being her home cooking. Her skill was more than the food she prepared, but also in sharing her recipes with us, taking us under her wing and walking us step by step through her special craft. Her homemade tortillas are legendary. Margarita would make fresh tortillas every morning at 5am, enough for all to have plenty and to accompany the numerous dishes she would make for meals throughout the day. To say she was an excellent cook would be an understatement. Her family will continue to share and enjoy the many recipes and dishes she shared with us, and many generations will continue to taste the love Margaret shared from the kitchen. This love of Margarets was shown in many ways, she set the prime example of what loving and taking care of family meant. She lived by example, and expected the same from those she loved, and if someone didnt get her message, she would definitely make it clear. Margaret was someone who would not be shy about letting her family know if the cleaning needed to be done or if a chore was forgotten. She took pride in the cleanliness of her home and surroundings. And she took the pride in chores being done “the right way.” If Margaret saw the job wasnt being done correctly, she would correct it. Many of us have been guided by Margaret on how to do laundry, clean the dishes, and clean every nook and cranny of our homes. Loving and taking care of family meant keeping a tidy home, and that is how she cared and loved us, and for that we loved her too. Margarets talents far exceeded household chores. Her talent for sewing and creating original clothing was nothing short of amazing. She hand-crafted everything from custom prom and wedding dresses, to hemming pants and sewing buttons. She spent many hours in her sewing room with the radio on, working her craft and finding pleasure in creating baby blankets, clothing, and home dcor. One great memory is when her great grandson was going to Disneyland on a hot sunny day. Great Grandma insisted the baby wore a hat. She measured his head with her hands, and in less than 30 minutes he was on his way with a custom hat; just one of the endless examples of her eye and talent for sewing. This remarkable talent for sewing was yet another skill Margaret passed on to her future generations, guiding the hands of her children and grandchildren to learn her loving trade. She loved to share stories of her youth, growing up on a small farm in Texas, she worked hard and enjoyed having fun, and her sense of humor will live with us forever. She loved and was very much loves back. She lived her life sharing her joys with those around her, and when she would speak her mind, it was always with a loving heart. Margaret wanted to share her knowledge and years of wisdom. And she succeeded. There will always be something there to remind us of this amazing woman called Mom, Grandma, Tia, Sister, and Friend. Margaret will be missed, but will never be forgotten.
