Martin H Postma

April 3, 1942 — January 1, 2022

Martin Postma passed away on January 1, 2022 at the age of 79 after a battle with dementia and lung cancer. Martin was one of five children born to Ids and Maria Postma in Erp Germany on April 3, 1942. In 1948 his family came to the United States and settled in Bellflower California where they lived on his uncle's dairy farm. Martin and his siblings attended Carmenita Elementary where they learned English - no ESL at that time. In his early teens Martin went to work on his uncle's dairy milking cows and raising cane with his brother and cousins riding bulls and horses and racing old cars in the pastures. As a true German Martin loved beer and was an excellent pool player. He also loved fast cars, motorcycles, dogs and Country music and dancing. He loved to work on old cars and watch off road racing. He considered himself to be anti-social and held his personal feelings close but he would always be willing to help anyone out - a stranded motorist, a neighbor and the elderly. He had a great sense of humor and never let adversity bother him. Even during his long battle with dementia his sense of humor always came through. His favorite holiday was Halloween and he enjoyed dressing up for the Renaissance Fair and Wild West Days. In the 60's Martin married, had 3 children and lived in Buena Park. He continued to work in the dairy industry milking cows. In the 70's he remarried and settled in Corona with his wife and son. Martin worked for Van Wyk Milk Testing and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association in Chino as a Milk Tester until 2003. After a hip replacement he had to leave the dairy so he worked several years for an assisted living facility in Corona before he retired. Martin is survived by his wife Virginia; children William (Michelle) Postma, Sherry Willhite, Dwayne Postma, Tammy (Mike) Dragoon; grandchildren Abigail, Matthew, Cassie, Amanda, Mike, Shanna, Becky, Heather and 16 great grandchildren. Martin is also survived by his sister Jan, brother Edward, cousins Christine Postma and Jeannie (Virgil) Cardoza as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
