Mary Ellen Germann, 86, died peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2015 in her home, surrounded by her husband and her children. She was taken by a massive stroke, therefore free of any pain or suffering. She was born on March 29, 1928 to Valentine and Mary Luppert in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; and moved to California when she was six months old where she spent the remainder of her life. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Catholic High School in Los Angeles. In 1949 she married Robert Anthony Germann, beginning a love affair that would last more than 65 years. They settled in Oceanside, California and lived there for 54 years during which time she became active in her community while rearing their brood of eight children. All she wanted to be was a good wife and mother and in her 86 years she accomplished that and so much more. If mom werent busy working hot lunch or coaching volleyball at St. Marys Star of the Sea Catholic School, you could find her with a group of Camp Fire girls selling candy on Pacific Avenue or baking cookies for one of her childrens class parties. Mom loved her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and would have done anything for them, but she didnt stop there. Not only was she devoted to her family; she selflessly served the community of Oceanside. Her contributions included chairing many fundraisers such as the Old Mission San Luis Rey Fiesta and its prestigious Heritage Ball; the Mardi Gras for the Academy of the Little Flower; and the Bal de Fleur for the North County Concert Association. In the late 70s, as if she werent already busy enough, she decided to buy The Harbor Sweet Shop in Oceanside Harbor Village. For 15 years, she loved serving up her favorite treat ICE CREAM! She was known both by Oceanside residents and the many tourists that visited the harbor as The Ice Cream Lady! In moms golden years, when all the children were grown, there was nothing she loved more than sitting with dad in the harbor, watching the seals and waiting for the sun to set will there be a green flash tonight? But this is only a small part of Mary Ellens story. Cherished by many, she will be deeply missed and her beautiful blue eyes will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by 3 of her children, Melinda, Jeffrey and Dean, and one grandchild, Brian. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob, and five children and their spouses: Michael and Hilary Germann, Kathleen and Tony Curto, Kim and Greg Mooney, Heidi Brun and Tracy Mauser; her thirteen grandchildren: Matthew and Kelly Curto, Toby and Rachel Curto, Christy, Douglas, Isaac, and Ivan Curto; Hannah, Haley and Max Mooney; Sadie, Emily and Andrew Brun; and Caleb Mauser; and, 5 great-grandchildren: Steven, Jackson, Alexander, Kate, and Taylor Curto. The Memorial Service and Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 21st at St. Marys Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 609 Pier View Way Oceanside, CA at 2PM. Following the service everyone is invited to the Celebration of Life at the home of Judy Williamson 2216 Ivy Rd., Oceanside, CA 92054. Memorial St. Mary Star of the Sea Wednesday 1/21, 2:00 pm
