Melva May (Brisendine) Chance departed from this life peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2014 surrounded by family. She was born on February 23, 1922 in Kim, Colorado. She was the fifth of nine children. She was delivered into this world by her father, Roy. When she was 3 years old, her family moved to Northwest Oklahoma. Her family lived on many different farms in the area. She attended a one room school house and graduated from the 8th grade. She went to work to help her family. She worked in many different occupations. During the Depression, she worked as a sewer for the Works Progress Administration. She met her husband, Orval, at a dance. She was impressed by his bright blue eyes. They were married on November 16, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas. To their union they welcomed a daughter, Kay and a son, Ron. During World War ii, she was a riveter on airplane fuselages. They moved to California in 1946. She decided she needed to drive and learned in 1955. She moved to Corona in 1966. She worked for the Corona-Norco Unified School District for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She will be remembered for her smile, sense of humor, service to others and her faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Rogers of Laverne, Oklahoma, daughter, Kay (Wes) Barnes of Altus, Oklahoma and son, Ron (Marie) Chance of Reno, Nevada, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
