Melvin W. Zimmerman

March 5, 1952 — November 4, 2020

Melvin "Mel" Wayne Zimmerman, 68, of Corona, California passed away on November 4, 2020 in his home surrounded by family. Mel was born March 5, 1952 in Lynwood, California to Geraldine and Elmer Zimmerman. In his early years, he grew up in Lakewood, California where he developed a passion for skateboarding and bowling. He later moved to Corona with his brother, Glenn and his father. He would also see his brother Chuck often, as they both shared an interest in cars. Mel enjoyed frequent family outings to camp, boat, and fish. In high school, he grew fond of the Pacific Ocean and developed a desire to surf in his free time. Upon graduation, Mel followed his heart and took a trip of a lifetime to Hawaii with his friend, Scott. Upon returning, he developed an interest in customer relations and purchasing. His primary place of employment was with Rockwell International. In his adult years, he met his wife Janis "Jan" in Corona, as they both lived at the same apartment complex. They hit it off right away and had many common interests. It was there where Jan fell in love with Mel's cooking; he would invite her over for tacos and BBQ often. She was impressed with his personality, easy spirit, and beautiful smile. It wasn't too long after, they were married at Crossroads Church in Corona, in 1985. They honeymooned in the Caribbean and while traveling, explored the beautiful surroundings of the tropics. They particularly enjoyed the crystal blue waters of St. John. Once Jan and Mel settled down, they decided to start a family and his daughters, Lauren and Jaime, were Mel's pride and joy. He took great interest in helping to raise his children and valued family vacations and precious time together. He was a lover of the outdoors and had a passion for nature and animals. Mel looked forward to big life events like birthdays, high school and college graduations, wedding days, and the arrival of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the daily, routine moments and everything in between such as trips to the beach, walks to the park, and days by the pool. Life did not always go in Mel's favor due health ailments, but he always looked to the future for guidance and hope. His faith in God and his love for family never wavered despite lifes circumstances. During Mel's final years, he resided in his home in Corona with his wife and his beloved dog, Buddy. Up until the very end, Mel looked forward to spending time with his extended family and precious moments with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will truly be missed. Mel leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Janis Zimmerman; two daughters, Lauren Brown and Jaime Moore; two son-in-laws, Nathan Brown and Kurtis Moore; and three grandchildren, Nolan, Daxton, and Halle.
