Michael McClain Cheatham was introduced to life with an enticing smile and irresistible eyes on a rainy day, November 19, 1990 to Rick and Kelly Cheatham. He is the first born of three beautiful children, the “Big Brother” to Kyle, and Victoria. Because Kyle was only 19 months younger, he and Michael were also best friends, and people often mistook them for twins. Michael was 10 years older than his baby sister Victoria, and was her constant protector. From day one Michael lived with passion as he explored his surroundings and investigated how things worked. As a toddler, if you were to call him while he was in “exploration” mode he would simply reply “Michael busy.” He would take things apart just to see how they were put together. He was never satisfied with a simple “yes” or “no” answer; he wanted to know “why” and “how.” This was the spirit that would frustrate his teachers and his parents as they sought to satisfy his curiosity with the simple answers. Friendship was Michaels true calling, he loved people. He loved to play, another frustration to many of his teachers! He experienced people at a level that connected with their playful side. For him, school was a social event, an opportunity to connect with people, a place where relationships were the priority and having fun was the goal. He brought people from all peer groups together and made you feel like a best friend. He was the catalyst for many of the friendships you experience today. He would bring you together then quietly disappear. Michael could connect with you at deep spiritual level or remain on the surface and simply enjoy your company. But when he connected with you spiritually, he gave you a glimpse into his heart and the purpose for which he lived. On many occasions, he and his dad would engage in spiritual conversations about life that would cause them to loose track of time. On two recent occasions those conversations led to them forgetting to pick Victoria up from school. Michaels love for God was demonstrated through his love for people. His purpose was to help people heal their mind, body, and soul. Politically, Michael was a rebel! He was a proud member of the Libertarian Party and the NRA. If you wanted to discuss world affairs, you better know your stuff. He would watch CSPAN just to know what the legislators were up to. He questioned everything they said and the true motive for what they did. He was a voice to his generation to stand up and take action and get involved or loose your freedom. For Michael, freedom was bought and paid for by the lives of American soldiers and he was compelled to protect it at all cost. The great Outdoors was his Cathedral. He loved the freedom he experienced, as he became one with nature and the God who created it. He was at home and at his greatest peace while hiking, fishing, hunting, riding horses, and exploring with friends, everything God had created. For him, life was meant to be an expression of Gods nature and perfect harmony, and he struggled with those who would interfere with that. He loved animals and used his mom and dads place as his personal farm with dogs, horses, chickens, and was working on getting a cow and a few goats. Michael was trusting and humble, he was real, and never pretended to be what others thought he should be. He never sought mans approval and was wise beyond his years. He was an expression of Gods love to others. He took his last breath here and his next breath there on December 18, 2013 on a rainy day. He now explores creation with the Creator. He is free! I can only imagine what he must be experiencing right now as he soars with the angels. We are left to grieve and mourn our loss, but Michael, is on the adventure of his life, exploring a world where we all long to be. Even if we could ask him to come home and ease our pain, Im sure he would say, “Michael busy.” We love you son, well be home soon.
