Michiko "Mickey" Shimazaki DOKTOR was born December 15, 1934 on the Ryūkyū island of Okinawa to Toshiko MAEDA of Kijyoka, Ogimi Village in Okinawa, and Tomokatsu SHIMABUKURO of Koza, Okinawa, who descended from Seikichi SHIMABUKURO OF Ikehara Village, Okinawa. School principal Tomokatsu SHIMABUKURO changed the family name to SHIMAZAKI as the former name was common to most of the residents of Ikehara Village. Michiko had seven siblings: Katsuyuki, Masayuki, Naoko, Takako, Yoriyuki, Hiroko and Kaiyoko. Michiko survived the horrific Battle of Okinawa in caves near Tancha Village, as an Onna Elementary School student. She was a kindergarten and elementary school teacher. Her first marriage in 1955 ended with divorce and estranged son Takao SHIMABUKURO. Michiko later met her husband Robert DOKTOR in 1965, which she would have celebrated 53 years of marriage this year. Michiko and Robert had two sons Pete(r) and Ray(mond), who helped bring forth grandchildren Reiō and Max(imus). Michiko also helped mother son Stephen DOKTOR, of Robert DOKTOR, who helped bring forth grandchildren Cara and Joshua, bringing forth great grandchildren Skyla, Calina and Caden. Michiko also leaves behind her beloved protector, baby and dog, Gunny. Michiko worked much throughout her life a waitress, who was renown for her VIP treatment and service, but particularly her singing for guests, and could turn "Happy Birthday" song into an anthem that could stop the entire restaurant, or help the women's team win in the Annual Song Competition (Kōhaku Uta Gassen) in Little Tōkyō. However, Michiko's passion included the arts: music, song and dance as a member of numerous Japanese and Okinawan music clubs over many years, including Mai no Kai (traditional Japanese dance), Himawari Karaoke Doko-Kai (singing) to name a few. Michiko was also active with her Ryūkyūan culture and community, having been a past president of the Orange County Okinawa Ken-jin Kai (Okinawan Association) in the early 1970s, and active with different clubs within the Okinawan community. Michiko was legendary for her thoughtful chimugukuru ("beautiful heart/mind/spirit" in Ryūkyūan language).
