Born on September 6, 1933, in Buffalo, New York, he took great pride in his Turkish & Polish heritage. He was the beloved son of Osman Omar and Helen Teresa Twardosz, both of whom preceded him in death. A devoted husband for 56 years to Barbara (also preceded him in death) and a dedicated father for 65 years. He was also a cherished brother, uncle, father‑in‑law, brother‑in‑law, grandfather, great‑grandfather & friend.
A loyal patriot, he served honorably in the United States Navy for 20 years. Following his military retirement, he moved with his family to the West Coast, settling in Corona, California, and began a new chapter working for the Burns & Roe Water Treatment Facility in Garden Grove, California. Committed to lifelong learning, he completed his college degree and joined the Corona Norco Unified School District Adult Education Program where he focused on counseling and CETA‑funded programs. He later became a counselor at the California Institute for Women in Chino, California, making a meaningful and lasting impact on countless lives.
In retirement, he moved to Palm Desert, CA, embracing seasonal work that brought him joy—spending 17 winters in Oregon harvesting Christmas trees and shipping them to Hawaii, where he managed and distributed trees at various retail lots. He also traveled often to Buffalo-NY, Florida, and Kentucky to visit family & friends, nurturing the connections he valued so deeply.
At the age of 92, he passed away from a combination of many health issues, surrounded by his loving family at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Riverside, California. He now joins his beautiful & beloved wife, Barbara, in Heaven. His children have been blessed with more than 60 years of memories—years filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
He is survived by his four children, Pamela Koehler (Richard Bergkamp), Jeffrey (Donna) Omar, Dawn (Joe) Marmo and Kimberly Omar; his sister, Rose Tan; 14 grandchildren, 15 great‑grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a close extended family and many friends throughout the country from his years of service and retirement.
The Omar Family invites relatives and friends to a Memorial Service on Wednesday, April 22nd at 10:00 AM at Thomas Miller Mortuary, 1118 E. Sixth St., Corona, CA. Military Honors will follow at 1:30 PM (staging at 1:00 PM) at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA.
We are deeply grateful for the love, support, and prayers we have received. Our family is truly blessed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a veterans’ charity in his honor.
